Patriots-Cowboys Game Observations (First Half)
A collection of thoughts from the TV copy of the game:
- On the Patriots first drive, on a 2nd and 6 at the 8 yard line, Brady had time but couldn’t find an open receiver on the play. One option looked open throwing to Wes Welker, who may not have been able to make a catch, but would probably have been able to draw a Pass Interference penalty as the defender on him illegally pushed him to the ground in the endzone.
- Kyle Arrington’s interception was a result of good pressure on Tony Romo, who forced it out of his hands after feeling pressure come through the middle and from the right edge of the offensive line.
- Brandon Spikes had a much better game, dodging lead blockers in the run game, causing QB pressures on blitzes, busting through the interior line, and chasing down Dez Bryant from behind.
- Early in the second quarter, the Patriots ran another screen to Rob Gronkowski, similar to a play ran last week (noted in my game observations). This went for a first down, and Gronkowski broke one tackle on the play. Gronkowski also had one more screen play late in the fourth quarter for 9 yards.
